MD DNR, Nontidal Wetlands of Special State Concern
In Maryland certain wetlands with rare, threatened, endangered species or unique Habitat receive special attention. The Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) Title 26, Subtitle 23, Chapter 06, Sections 01 & 02 identifies
these Wetlands of Special State Concern (WSSC)and
affords them certain protections including a 100 foot buffer
from development. The Maryland Department of the
Environment is responsible for identifying and regulating
these wetlands. In general, the US Fish and Wildlife
Service's National Wetlands Inventory wetlands provide the
basis for identifying these special wetlands. Additional
information, determined from field inspections, is used to
identify and classify these areas.

Description: File name: sde.WORCESTERSDE.mcb_tidal_bndy
A vector file of the limit of tidal wetlands was created from the DNR Wetlands. This file is suitable for creating buffers of the landward extent of the Tidal Wetlands. This data set was orginally created by the MD Department of Natural Resources. The data set was received by the Worcester Regional GIS (WRGIS) as an Arc Coverage. The coverage was converted to a shape file by the WRGIS. This coverage is a representation of the Tidal Influences within the MD Coastal Bays. The WRGIS did a quality control check of the coverage by comparing the tidal line created by the MD DNR to the 1989 DOQQ's and making logical adjustments. This data coverage was created based on the best available data and should only be used for guidance purposes.
